Sharing with You a Few “Secret” Beauty Tips – Olive Oil Based

BY JAN ASHBY    jan ashby writer

Olive oil can offer many benefits to you; there are health benefits, and beauty benefits too. Today I have some special beauty tips to share.

Of course, you are probably aware that olive oil is good for helping you control your cholesterol, and reduces your chance of getting colon cancer or breast cancer. Yet it also moisturizes the skin, and does some impressive things with your hair and scalp.  In other words, this post is called “olive oil beauty tips for skin and hair“.
Here are some homemade beauty treatments which work for me:     beauty-tips-skin-and-hair

o  Olive oil for fingernails – bolsters and strengthens my nails.

I simply heat the olive oil up in a dish with a tablespoon of lemon juice, and soak the nail for 10 to 15 minutes.

o  Minor burns to the skin – If you have been exposed to harmful UV rays from the sun or tanning bed, it can be helpful to use a blend of vitamin enriched oils. I apply a product that has premium olive oil, wheat germ oil and cocoa butter. I find it helps my sensitive skin when I’ve been out on the water all day in the summertime, and have gotten a few too many sun rays.

o  Feet – When applied to the bottoms of your feet, olive oil can reduce calluses. Simply apply, and then put on some all-cotton socks which you wear overnight. Your feet will look, and feel, much better in the morning.

o  Lips – I only discovered this one recently, myself. It is really good in wintertime; to help prevent chapped lips during wintry weather, simply apply about one half teaspoon of olive oil to your dry lips. It must be the extra virgin olive oil.

o  Ear wax removal – this is one you may not know. Olive oil is an acceptable method of removing ear wax from the ear canal. The AAFP has actually said it’s okay; it is a good way of softening up the ear wax, as it then breaks into small pieces which you can wipe away.

o  Eye make-up remover – since extra virgin olive oil is all natural, it is fantastic to use to remove my eye makeup. And as a side benefit, olive oil is soothing, and moisturizing to the delicate skin around my eyes. I can honestly say it feels good on one’s eyelashes

o  Hair – I tried a soothing hair treatment made up of honey & olive oil & rosemary essential oil; it was furnished to me by my hairdresser, and is a make-at-home recipe.  The contents are:

• 1/2 cup honey

• 1/4 cup warmed olive oil (2 tablespoons for normal to oily hair)

• 4 drops rosemary essential oil

• 1 tsp of xanthan gum – I have static electricity in my hair during winter months, and this treatment really does the trick to keep it under control. What I do is wear a cap overnight, and then when I awaken I wash it out.  Also I do apply a high quality conditioner, too.

I find that this treatment restores moisture to the ends of my hair, which takes quite a beating here in North Dakota in the wintertime – all that wind, you know, that comes down from Canada!  Ugh!  Frankly, I just love Olive oil – not only for my hair and skin, but also because of its wonderful antioxidant properties. It helps me inside, and out.
